Peace Corps of Nigeria (PCN) Bill Update | Latest News: Congratulation to the officers of the Peace Corps of Nigeria (PCN) as the House of Reps and the Senate have forwarded harmonized version of the Nigerian Peace Corps (Establishment) Bill after the passage by both the Senate and the House of Representatives to President Muhammadu Buhari for assent.

The National Assembly has forwarded the harmonized version of the Nigerian Peace Corps (Establishment) Bill after passage by both the Senate and the House of Representatives to President Muhammadu Buhari for assent.
Three copies of the authenticated copies of the bills were forwarded to the President for assent, one of which is expected to be retained by him, and the other two were sent back to the National Assembly for further action.
President Buhari is expected to assent to the bill on or before 11th May 2023 when the 30-day window, In line with the provisions of the 1999 Constitution

The National Assembly has kick-started the process of transmitting to the Presidency the Bill for an Act to establish the Nigeria Peace Corps with final harmonization of the Bill by the two Chambers.
The House of Representatives took the lead by constituting a six-man Conference Committee that would work with their Senate counterpart to harmonize and produce a clean copy of the Bill for onward transmission to President Muhammadu Buhari for assent.
Members of the House Conference Committee are Hon Babangida Ibrahim (Chairman) Hon Tijani Kayode Ismail, Hon Chinedu Ogah, Hon Ibrahim Umar Potiskum, Hon Abdulmumini Are, and Hon Legor Idegbo as members.
On its part, the Senate’s Committee members
Senator Kashim Shettima, Chairman while
Senator Abba Moro, Senator Betty Apiafi, Senator Oriolowo Adelere, Senator Eyinnaya Abaribe, and Senator Seriake Dickson are members.
The Conference Committee members are expected to look at discrepancies and harmonize them before forwarding the clean copy to the Presidency.
So far, the organization has a well-structured network of offices in the 36 States of the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory FCT.
It has a membership strength of over 187,000 comprising both regular staff and volunteers.
As confided with one of HoR members, all members of the Peace Corps are to be rest assured, the bill will be given another chance to pass in the lower chamber come November

Functions and Duties of Peace Corps Officers
Maintain public highway toilets and campaign aggressively against open defecation
Establishing Peace Corps clubs in colleges and schools and at the same time involving the Peace Corps club members in the promotion of conflict management and transformation, internal understanding, and peace education.
Identify techniques, tools, and the process of creativity, critical thinking, discovery, and innovation to facilitate problem-solving.
Detect any vandalization plots to the valuable properties of the colleges and schools.
Promote economic and social development by incorporating volunteers and members in the scheme through working with multi-agencies to keep the youths preoccupied.
To equip and train the youth with essential knowledge on conflict resolution, peace education, reconciliation, mediation, and nation-building.
Creating profitable employment to improve the livelihood of Nigerians
Check all forms of exam malpractices and provide adequate security to higher institutions
