Nigeria Doctors Salary Structure (Federal, State & Private)

Nigeria Doctors’ Salary Structure (Federal, State & Private): Doctors in Nigeria have decent “take-home-pay”, their salary structure are among the best in the country, as the health sector undergoes reforms and rejuvenation, more increase will be made for doctors and health workers’ welfare

Doctors in Nigeria enjoy decent salary, these salary may not measure up with their Western counterpart, but they are in line with the nation’s minimum wage, apart from their salaries, they enjoy “mouthwatering” allowances and packages too numerous to mention

According to the National Salary Income and Wages Commission (NSIWC), there are two salary structures in the public tertiary hospitals in Nigeria.

They are called CONMESS for medical doctors and CONHESS for all other hospital workers including those in the administration and accounts.

Grade level (GL) system as shown below.

Nigeria Doctors Salary Structure from Federal and States Medical Centers

Doctors are paid differently from both from Federal and States Medical Centers, this is due to area of specialization, level of experience and qualification attained

Resident Doctors receive between N150, 000 to N250, 000 monthly

Medical Consultants receive between N500, 000 to N800, 000 monthly

Nigeria Doctor’s Salary Structure from Private Hospitals In Nigeria

Doctors in private hospitals in Nigeria are paid much lower than those in Federal and States Medical Centers

Resident Doctors receive between N100, 000 to N200, 000 monthly

Medical Consultants receive between N400, 000 to N600, 000 monthly

Houseman-ship Salary Structure

After graduation from medical school, a doctor practices for 12 consecutive months under supervision of a specialist or a very senior doctor of no less than GL 15 before given licence to practice independently.

These group of doctors are called house officers. Pharmacists, degree nurses and medical lab scientist have similar program and they are called interns.

Salary is between N100, 000 to N200, 000 monthly

Salary of NYSC Doctors

Immediately a medical graduate finishes his/her Degree and other related programs in any higher institutions of learning, he/she must have a year spent on the NYSC program, if the age is not above 30

As a medical doctor serving, he/she is pad between N50,000 to N100,00 monthly, depending on the states and Place of Primary Assignment (PPA)

Conclusion

These salaries structure may not be completely correct, there are many changes going on regarding doctor’s salaries and allowances, but they represent what doctors are earning in Nigeria
