Top Ten (10) Power Foods That Boost the Immune System: The immune system is the body’s defense mechanism against diseases. Maintaining a healthy and strong immune system is vital to insure proper functioning of the body.

There are some foods that when eaten increase the strength of the immune system so that it can fight off diseases.

Here is a list of ten foods that boost the immune system:

Citrus fruits

Citrus fruits are rich in vitamin-C which fights common cold.

Almost all of them have this essential vitamin in them. Vitamin-C also improves the skin tone and makes it lighter and smoother.

Examples of citrus fruits are

  • Lemon

Garlic is a very essential food when it comes to boosting the immune system.

Another food rich in vitamin-C are red bell peppers. They contain twice the amount of vitamin-C an orange has. They are another good option for providing vitamin-C to the body.

  • Green tea

Green tea is packed with flavonoids, a type of antioxidant. Green tea also has L-theanine a protein which helps the body to fight against infections.

  • Papaya

Papaya is another fruit full of vitamin-C it also has a digestive enzyme called papain.

It also has a reasonable amount of magnesium, potassium and folate which are all greatly beneficial to a person’s health.

  • Spinach

Spinach has antioxidants and beta carotene both which increase the ability of the immune system to fight diseases.

It also has vitamin-A which helps in good eyesight.

  • Turmeric

Turmeric is a bright yellow spice that is used as an anti-inflammatory in treating osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.

It has high concentrations of curcumin which boost the immune system.

Poultry

Poultry birds such as chicken and turkey are high in vitamin B-6. This vitamin is especially important as it contributes in many chemical reactions that occur in the body.

It is also vital for the formation of bones. Poultry also contain gelatin, chondroitin, and other nutrients helpful for healing the digestive tract and for providing immunity.
