The 500,000 disengaged beneficiaries were supposed to spend 24 months, but Batch A beneficiaries have spent over 40 months thereby denying other Nigerians an opportunity to access the programme and gain skills for entrepreneurship and empowerment

She always maintains her stands on exit of batch A and B beneficiaries into what is called “Transition”,

There had been controversies between Ms Farouq and President Muhammadu Buhari’s Special Adviser on Social Investment, Maryam Uwais, about the exit package for the Batch A and B volunteers as each traded blame on who was responsible for the delay in disengaging the beneficiaries.

“The Minister had blamed the National Social Investment Office (NSIO), under Mrs Uwais for having no viable plan for the exit of the beneficiaries.”

“In reaction, Mrs Uwais said her administrators had made ‘exit plans’ which had not been implemented before the office was moved under the leadership of Ms Farouq. She also said she had briefed Mrs Farouq on those plans”.

Volunteers Might be Transitioned in the Month of November

The goal is to keep volunteers Npowered while positioning Nigeria at the core of the post covid-19 digital economy.

Responding to a question asked on NTA, the Minister hinted Government plan to transition volunteers without laying them off.

“As part of the transition process before eligible volunteers will be absorbed into government entrepreneurship schemes and engaging private sector bodies to absorb some of the beneficiaries, a compulsory completion of psychometric assessment would be done to determine competency and placement into various opportunities – Hajiya Sadiya Farouq disclosed.

The Federal Government will be opening opportunities in the services and real sectors of the economy where all volunteers will be deployed.

Some key sectors for deployment include.

  • Real Estate
  •  Hospitality
  • Information & Communication Technology (ICT)
  • Creative industry
  • Finance (agency banking)
  • Agriculture & Agro processing

“This was contained in a statement in Abuja on Friday by the Deputy Director Information of the ministry, Rhoda Iliya”

Hajiya Sadiya Farouq,  said “We have commenced the transitioning of beneficiaries from Batches A and B into government entrepreneurship schemes and engaging private sector bodies to absorb some of the beneficiaries after the completion of psychometric assessment to determine competency and placement into various opportunities.

No Hope for Device Selection and Pickup in November

The much-promised devices, might not come at all, any hope on devices is a “wishful thinking”

All beneficiaries should take to Mrs. sadiya’s twitter page and sing tirelessly of the much-promised devices

Massive Protests Against Disengagement in November is Very Much Possible

Not fewer than 3,500 disengaged volunteers from the 36 states and the FCT have taken Abuja city by surprise for a SIT-IN IN ABUJA protest. A protest that will last till October 2020

The Protest is schedule to take place 26th of August 2020 at the national Secretariat Abuja

Volunteers have already sort police permission and injunction to press on with their demand

Volunteers of the Npower programme were recently disengaged by the government, a move not palatable for a country like Nigeria, with more than 60 million jobless young persons

Disengaged Volunteers will be contesting and questioning the disengagement plan carried out by the Umar Sadiya Farouq, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development

This is not the first protest, two massive protests were already carried out, but the government claimed they have no money to settle volunteers, citing poor economy and the global pandemic as reasons

The “SIT-IN IN ABUJA” protest will be a long and precise one, not until the president addresses the situation himself, disengaged volunteers will not step an inch out of the Federal Capital territory Protesting Volunteers took along, for themselves blankets, stoves, cooking Utensils, Buckets, and Media outlets
