FMARD/SPACE Approves N30M Contract For Mosque Construction: Nigerians are questioning the action of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture And Rural Development who awarded a contract for the construction of a mosque- A move that is far from its aims and objectives

Federal Ministry of Agriculture And Rural Development has awarded contract worth millions of naira to build a mosques, which is not the aim of setting up the ministry.

Many Nigerians are worried with the ways funds meant for important issues are spent on goals far from it

Federal Ministry of Agriculture And Rural Development primary Responsibilities include:

Intensifying settlement programmes for pastoralists by providing necessary facilities at the grazing reserves and supporting ranching facilities.

Developing integrated Pest Control and Management System for sustainable crop and livestock production in the country.

Providing virile national animal, fisheries and plant quarantine services.

Increasing the level and widening the scope of insurance coverage of agricultural production to reduce risk and losses attendant to agricultural production.

Maintaining the Strategic National Food Reserve Programme for purposes of food security and market stability.

Promoting the timely availability of adequate and quality agro – inputs to enhance production.

Developing an efficient competitive and self–sustaining production, health and management of improved livestock species in the country to meet the protein needs of the populace and the raw materials requirements of industries.

Promoting an efficient and effective credit administration system

Creating a conducive environment to stimulate greater sector participation in agriculture to enable the business side assume it’s appropriate role as the engine of economic growth.

Increasing agricultural production through the promotion of supportive and service-oriented sub-sectoral activities to enhance production, productivity and marketing opportunities.

Developing the seed industry and technology as the foundation of sustainable practice.

Promoting the research and development of appropriate agricultural technology including biotechnology to transform agricultural production and productivity

Promoting agro-processing, preservation and storage to reduce pre- and post- harvest losses to the barest minimum.

But the Ministry has diverted from of  above mentioned functions, and chose to build a mosques

“AWARD OF CONTRACT FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF FRIDAY MOSQUE

I am directed to inform you that the Ministerial Tenders Board at its 7th meeting held on 7th, December, 2020 approved the award of contract for the Construction of Friday Mosque to your Company at the total contract sum of M30,000,000.00 (Thirty Million Naira) only, inclusive of VAT, with a completion period of eight ( 8 ) weeks, with effect from the date of this letter.

You are therefore required to indicate in writing within three (3) days of receipt of this Offer, your acceptance to the Office of the Director Procurement, FMARD, Abuja or otherwise, the Offer will be considered lapsed. Thereafter, you are to liaise wife the Director (Animal Husbandry Services) for adequate supervision of the Contract and the Director (Legal Services) for signing of the Contract Agreement.

Please note that the Contract is not transferable and the cost is fixed, firm and request for price variation will not be entertained.

It is expected that the Contract will be executed in strict compliance with the BOQ/Specifications and in line with relevant clauses in the Bidding Document and Contract Agreement”

The Federal Ministry Of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management & Social Development hosted a workshop on stakeholders mapping for effective coordination of humanitarian intervention and on prevention and countering violent extremism in Maiduguri, Borno State

The workshop is aimed at improving the general wellbeing of victims of humanitarian crisis through advocacy for social justice, inclusion as well as reducing the level of escalation of violence through canvassing for dialogue as a desired option.

In a drive to curb the spread of terrorism, joblessness and poverty, the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management & Social Development has provided skills to 40 unemployed youths in Borno State

The skills acquisition programme is aimed at “improving the general wellbeing of victims of humanitarian crisis through advocacy for social justice, inclusion as well as reducing the level of escalation of violence through canvassing for dialogue as a desired option”

“Having realized the gap inherent in the social issues such as poverty, illiteracy, youth population bulge, and other vices that could lead to violent extremism has deemed it necessary to provide vocational skill as a pilot phase to 40 unemployed youths in Borno State”
