ALL EYES ON BENUE AS THE PRESIDENT OF SOROPTIMIST INTERNATIONAL NIGERIA, MRS. BOSE MILAN-JACK SETS TO INAUGURATE THE CHARTER OF SI MAKURDI WITH MRS. HETTY AKAAKAR AS THE FIRST CHARTERED PRESIDENT

The president of the Soroptimist International Nigeria, Mrs. BOSE Milan-Jack will today, under the directives of the President of the Soroptimist International of Africa Federation, inaugurates the Charter of Soroptimist International Club of Makurdi with Mrs. Hetty Akaakar as the first president of the Club in Makurdi, Benue State.
The SI Makurdi Club is set to be the 21st Club of Soroptimist International Nigeria and the first club to be chartered under the new SI Africa Federation.
The SI Makurdi club is the first official assignment of Ms. Connie Mutunhu, the first president of Soroptimist International Africa Federation.
The yellow event will take place at the Royal Choice Inn, Makurdi by 2.00pm West African time.
Soroptimist International is a global volunteer movement working together to transform the lives of women and girls with over 80,000 Members in 133 countries who work for peace and in particular to improve the lives of women and girls, in local communities and throughout the world.
Through its General (Category One) Consultative Status as a non-governmental organization at the United Nations, the organization seeks equality, peace, and international goodwill for women for the past 68 years.
The organization has its roots in the Soroptimist movement, started in the USA in 1921 by Stuart Morrow, and in particular in the Soroptimist Club of Oakland, California, founded that same year, with Violet Richardson as president.
Through international partnerships and a global network of members, Soroptimists inspire action and create opportunities to transform the lives of women and girls by: Advocating for equity and equality; Creating safe and healthy environments; Increasing access to education; Developing leadership and practical skills for a sustainable future.
The principles of Soroptimism are to strive for: the advancement of the status of women, high ethical standards; human rights for all; equality, development and peace; and the advancement of international understanding, goodwill and peace.
Soroptimist International Nigeria has been in Nigeria since 1964. Soroptimist International of Nigeria (SINA) currently belongs to the newly established Soroptimist International of Africa Federation.
It was formerly under Soroptimist International of Great Britain and Ireland Federations.
Soroptimist International is interested in what they called the “3E” – To Educate, To Enable and To Empower women and girl child.
The Soroptimist International Makurdi, will today become the 21st SI Club in Nigeria. Soroptimist is the hope for the Benue woman and girl child.
