FG Spent ₦116m on Biros, Letterheads & Toners in One Year: The Federal Government has been criticized for using a huge sums of money just to buy Biros, Pencils and other minor office stationeries
The Government had used up to the sum of N116M to purchased biros, letter heads and pencils- a move that speak the interest of general public in the anti-corruption fight
Nigerians have been asking the government to account for the huge amount spend, a body known as the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has urged the President and the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Mr Timipre Sylva to use their leadership positions to urgently addressed the matter swiftly
SERAP revealed that “the 2015 report of the Auditor General for the Federation shows that officials of the Federal Ministry of Petroleum Resources spent N116m to buy biros, letterhead and toners in one year.”
“In the breakdown of the expenses, it was ascertained that the ministry spent N14.5m to purchase Schneider biros, N46m to print letterhead for the ministry and N56m to purchase toner for the ministry’s photocopy machines”
“According to the report given by the Office of the Auditor-General, ‘the contract for the supply of biros worth N14.5m was divided into smaller packages of less than N5m each and was awarded to four different companies in order to circumvent the permanent secretary’s approval threshold of N5m.’”
