AmericaDecides 2024: USA Election with Live Updates

AmericaDecides 2024: USA Election with Live Updates; The 2024 United States of America presidential election is currently going on, the world awaits the next president of the United States

Race into the white house is a precarious one and both the republic and congress are not taking chances, both parties are wining electorates with their campaign promises

The election is between the Republicans and Congress; Donald Trump represents the formal while Kamala Harris is the flag bearer of the later

The Democrats are the liberal political party, with an agenda defined largely by its push for civil rights, a broad social safety net, and measures to address climate change.

The Republicans are the conservative political party in the US. Also known as the GOP or the Grand Old Party, it has stood for lower taxes, shrinking the size of the government, gun rights, and tighter restrictions on immigration and abortion.

1. Kamala Harris

She is known for her famous quote ”At every step of the way, I’ve been guided by the words I spoke from the first time I stood in a courtroom: Kamala Harris, For the People”.

In 2004, Vice President Harris was elected District Attorney of San Francisco.

In 2010, Vice President Harris was elected Attorney General of California where she oversaw the largest state justice department in the country.

She took on those who were preying on the American people, winning a $20 billion settlement for Californians whose homes had been foreclosed on and a $1.1 billion settlement for students and veterans who were taken advantage of by a for-profit education company.

On January 20, 2021, Kamala Harris was sworn in as Vice President – the first woman, the first Black American, and the first South Asian American to be elected to this position. As Vice President, she has worked to bring people together to advance opportunity, deliver for families, and protect fundamental freedoms across the country.

In 2017, she was sworn into the United States Senate where she championed legislation to fight hunger, provide rent relief, improve maternal health care, expand access to capital for small businesses, revitalize America’s infrastructure, and combat the climate crisis.

2. Donald Trump

Donald John Trump (born June 14, 1946) is an American politician, media personality, and businessman who served as the 45th president of the United States from 2017 to 2021

Mr. Trump announced his candidacy for the Presidency on June 16, 2015. He then accepted the Republican nomination for President of the United States in July of 2016, having defeated 17 other contenders during the Republican primaries.

On November 8, 2016, Mr. Trump was elected President in the largest Electoral College landslide for a Republican in 28 years.

Mr. Trump won more than 2,600 counties nationwide, the most since President Ronald Reagan in 1984. He received the votes of more than 62 million Americans, the most ever for a Republican candidate.

In 2020, his handling of the world pandemic ”Covid 19” was tagged as a major contributing factor to his big loss to the current president; Joe Biden. He never conceded to date and that led to him mobilizing his fanatical supporters to truncate and stop the election validation on the 6th of January, 2021.

How does the US presidential election work?

The winner is not the person who gets the most votes across the country. Instead, both candidates compete to win contests held across the 50 states.

Each state has a certain number of so-called Electoral College votes partly based on population. There are a total of 538 up for grabs, and the winner is the candidate that wins 270 or more.

All but two states have a winner-takes-all rule, so whichever candidate wins the highest number of votes is awarded all of the state’s Electoral College votes.

Most states lean heavily towards one party or the other, so the focus is usually on a dozen or so states where either of them could win. These are known as the battleground or swing states.
