CBN Extends Deadline For Old Naira Notes To February 10: The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has extended the deadline for old naira notes to the 10th of February 2023
In a twist of event, the CBN governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele has announced the extension by 10 days the exchange for the old naira note, this is contained in a statement made this morning, Sunday 29th of January 2023
This is coming at a time when Nigerians are complaining about the shortage of the new naira, this development will give Nigerians more time to exchange their old notes
The new deadline is now 10 February instead of the former 31 January deadline, he said.
However, Nigerians have been advised to utilize this opportunity to exchange their old note with the new ones, adding that, there will be no more extensions after the 10th of February
Mr Emefiele spoke in Daura, Katsina State, after a meeting with the president who is in his home state for official duties.
Mr Emefiele said Nigerians, who are yet to change their naira notes from the old to new ones, now have an opportunity to do so.
Mr. Emefiele did not elaborate on what the central bank was doing to resolve the scarcity of the new notes.
